Adventure in every season
Lamoille County is best known for its ski slopes, but its non-lift outdoors are just as good — a paved greenway, a long rail trail, quiet paddling water and summit hikes on Vermont’s highest peak.
Two great trails
The valley’s twin paths suit every pace.
Stowe Recreation Path — paved, 5.3 miles, flat, threading the village along the West Branch.
Lamoille Valley Rail Trail — packed-gravel miles through Cambridge, Johnson and Morrisville.
Paddle Green River Reservoir
Near Hyde Park, Green River Reservoir State Park protects a motor-limited lake of quiet coves and undeveloped, forested shoreline — one of the finest flatwater paddling and remote-canoe-camping spots in Vermont, alive with loons.
Climb & swim
Hike Mount Mansfield by the Long Trail or Sunset Ridge for alpine-ridge views; cool off at Bingham Falls or little Lake Elmore, whose state-park beach and fire-tower hike make an easy family day.
