Is there anything to do in Killington in summer?
Some, but be honest with yourself about it. The bike park, golf, hiking on the Long Trail and swimming in the local ponds fill a weekend, and rates drop sharply. Many Access Road restaurants and shops close or cut hours between the ski season and the bike season, so check before you count on a particular place.
How long does the ski season actually run?
Killington usually opens earlier than anywhere else in the East, sometimes in October on a single manmade trail, and closes later, frequently into May on Superstar. The reliable full-mountain window is roughly late December through early April.
Should I stay on the Access Road or in Rutland?
The Access Road puts you within a shuttle ride of the lifts and the nightlife, at a price. Rutland, fifteen miles west on US-4, is markedly cheaper and has ordinary supermarkets and services, but you are committing to a twenty-five minute mountain drive each morning.
Is Killington good for beginners?
Yes, though the sheer size can be intimidating. Snowdon and the Ramshead side hold most of the gentle terrain and the learning area, and neighbouring Pico is smaller, quieter and often a friendlier place to start.
