Do I need a car if I stay in the base village?
Not if you intend to ski and eat on the mountain, since the village is pedestrian and everything is within a short walk of the gondola. You will want one to reach Manchester, the West River valley or any restaurant off the hill, and to get here in the first place.
Is Stratton good for families and beginners?
It is one of the more family-oriented resorts in Vermont, with a large ski school, gentle lower-mountain terrain and childcare on site. The trade-off is that expert skiers may find it tamer than Killington or Jay.
What is Stratton like in summer?
Much quieter, and pleasant for it. Golf, tennis, the gondola for hikers and the surrounding Green Mountain National Forest trails carry the season, and lodging is far cheaper. Some village businesses run limited hours between seasons.
How does it compare with nearby Bromley or Mount Snow?
Bromley, near Peru, is smaller, sunnier and cheaper, and good for a family learning day. Mount Snow, further south near Wilmington, is closer to the Massachusetts and Connecticut drive and busier at weekends. Stratton sits between them on size and above both on polish and price.
